به گزارش اقتصادنیوز به نقل از آتلانتیک؛ نامزد اصلی مخالف، اسوِتلانا تیخانوفسکایا، اندکی پس از انتخابات به لیتوانی گریخت ، زیرا معترضین در خیابان توسط پلیس ضد شورش مورد ضرب و شتم قرار گرفتند و هزاران نفر دستگیر شدند. در روزهای بعد، جمعیت بیشتری به بزرگترین اعتراضات تاریخ کشور ملحق شدند و خواستار استعفای لوکاشنکو، آزادی زندانیان سیاسی و پایان دادن به وحشیگری پلیس بودند. شماری از گروه های کارگری در اعتراض به نتایج انتخابات اعتصاب کرده اند و باعث تقویت تحرکات کارگری شده‌اند. رئیس جمهور لوکاشنکو هیچ یک از مطالبات معترضان را پیگیری نکرده و و دادستان های دولتی در حال ایجاد پرونده هایی جنایی علیه رهبران مخالفان هستند.
